Office closed tomorrow and it turns out that The Peanut Butter Solution is available on Google Video so after it turned out the burned copy I had was corrupted, I could finish traumatizing Jason with it!

(no subject)

It is snowing a lot, I was going to go see "Tales of Hoffman" at the theater and see some friends but instead I am thinking about whether I could take the caricatures from this article and draw bodies on them with their hands flashing gang signs, and then transfer the whole thing onto black velvet and hang it in my living room.

Man I am really sad about missing "Tales of Hoffman" (sorry friends but you are not mechanical dolls and evil ghosts that encourage people to sing themselves to death, unless there is something about you I do not know).

More snow!

DSCN1128

As of about 4:15 pm. The yard stick says 24", but that's also some of what's falling off the water garden tub. Officially, I think we've gotten 16" or so for my part of the area.

Simpsons time

For those of you who think the Simpsons are no longer funny, here is some Simpsons-related material to watch instead.

Ukrainian Simpsons

Some sort of odd Spanish language Simpsons skit... as far as I can tell the Spanish comment underneath reads "Making this was not Cruz and Raya's finest moment" BUT WHAT DO YOU KNOW IT'S NOT EVEN EnGLISH!!!!!!!

Snowpocalypse!

8:45 and the snow has started here in Alexandria. I'm looking forward to this.

More from the Birch Aquarium at Scripps

Wow!

The centerpiece of the Birch Aquarium was this large kelp farm tank. I had better pictures of it, but I liked this one because of the kid mashed up against the glass - gives you a good perspective of the size of the tank.

San Diego Museum of Man

San Diego Museum of Man
Originally uploaded by fenrik98.

This is the main tower of the San Diego Museum of Man, which is in Balboa Park in downtown San Diego (near the zoo). The MoM is an anthropology museum with a moderate-sized collection of artifacts tracking the evolution and development of the human species. There are exhibits on primitive hominids and human evolution, a collection of mummies (actual mummies, which is increasingly rare) , and many artifacts from Mesoamerican civilizations (Olmec, Maya, Moche).

The MoM costs $10, which is slightly steep, although it's bigger than it looks from the outside and the collection is pretty nice. If you have an interest in the subject it's probably worth checking out, but if not it's good enough to take some photos of the outside.

The Birch Aquarium at Scripps

Copper-Banded Butterfly Fish
Originally uploaded by fenrik98.

The Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography (affiliated with the University of California, San Diego) in La Jolla was a great marine-focused aquarium that collected and displayed fish and other aquatic life from the California coast, the San Diego Bay, and the Pacific Ocean. The Birch also mixes in a lot of advocacy with their displays, working to educate guests about the effects of climate change on the health of the world's oceans.

This photo is of a copper-banded butterfly fish, which happens to be the fish the Birch chose for its logo.
